Bluestockings Bookstore ... feminist / radical bookstore, activist center, and cafe. Lower East Side, Manhattan.

Liberation Books ... Harlem radical bookstore. 131st Street and Lenox Avenue. 212-281-4615. Liberation Books has been around since the 60s, they focus on black liberatory struggle books.

Soft Skull Press ... 71 Bond Street, Brooklyn. "a small, independent, and radical publisher"

St Marks Books ... they have a good selection of anarchist titles here, not to mention the great selection of other lefty titles. East Village.

Vox Pop ... cafe and bookstore on Cortelyou street in Flatbush, also an IWW shop!

ABC NO RIO ... an anarchist squat, social center, and media center. They also host many punk shows. Lower East Side.

6th Street Community Center ... a community center used by many different groups, located in the east village. 638 East 6th St, between ave B and C. Phone: 212 529 9720

Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center ... The CSV Cultural Center is a self-sufficient not-for profit multi-cultural, multi-arts center dedicated to providing opportunities for emerging and established artists in all disciplines.

C-Squat ... located on Avenue C between 9th and 10th streets, on the lower east side. A raw space that hosts punk shows.

5C CULTURAL CENTER ... To provide a stimulating, comfortable environment for community involvement in education, activism and the performing arts.

LGBT COMMUNITY CENTER ... Established in 1983, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center has grown to become the largest LGBT multi-service organization on the East Coast and second largest LGBT community center in the world.

Times Up! Space ... On Houston Street, in the heart of Lower Manhattan, this space offers classes and workshops on bikes and other transportation alternatives, movie nights, and a great place to just connect

Umbrella House ... a social center / squat in the East Village, 21-23 Ave C, just above Houston St. "We have a small stage and performance space on the first floor. We often host parties, performances, meetings, and puppet building workshops.

RED TENT WOMEN'S COMMUNITY CENTER ... The Red Tent Women's Project is New York City's ONLY community center for women of all backgrounds.

EMPTY VESSEL ... A boat moored in the Gowanus canal that hosts parties and events / shows.

DUMBA COLLECTIVE SPACE ... "dumba is a collectively-run not-for-profit space for art, performance, meetings and gatherings.".

Alt Coffee ... 139 Avenue A, on the Lower East Side. An alternative coffee shop / hangout. Internet access available,but it's pricey ($10 bucks an hour).

Indigo Cafe ... "Indigo Cafe & Books is an independent community bookstore and cafe located in Brooklyn, NY. Our mission is to create a warm and inviting space that encourages our community's journey toward spiritual and intellectual well-being. Rising Cafe ... coffee and music in Park Slope, Brooklyn

Strictly Roots Cafe... Harlem, 2058 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd and W 123rd, 212-864-8699. Vegan, organic and halal food served.

Web 2 Zone ... High speed internet access at 5 dollars per hour. Many machines, including Macs. There is a cafe in the place as well. Located at 54 Cooper Square, between Astor and East 4th Street.

Women's One World Cafe and Theater ... 59-61 East 4th Street 212-777-4280 " We are a cafe and theater space available for women performers. We often host different events. Call for schedule"

 

COMMUNITY GARDENS:

Edith Garden ... 836 Elton Avenue Bronx Located between 160th and 159th streets, There are free computer classes, kids workshops, and growing vegetables and fruit to share with the community. Call ahead of time to see if the garden is open. Volunteer in the garden where help is always needed. If you have any workshops, skillshares, or performances to offer, this garden welcomes your contributions.

LES Park ... 1st Street and Avenue A This park has compost, a greenhouse, a greywater system, a sports area, a solar energy area, and is a good sustainable urban model in the middle of Manhattan? Lower East Side.

Nuevo Cabo Rojo ... Corner of 162nd and Courtland Bronx The community garden that keeps coming back after the bulldozers are gone. This is actually the fourth Cabo Rojo Garden that has been created since the first one was destroyed.
Open sporadically, but more of a chance on the weekends.

Sixth and B Garden ... East 6th St and Avenue B This is a really beautiful, creative garden, and a great place for children of all ages. Open when members are there, check for ongoing events.

Madagascar Institute ... a space in Brooklyn where one can build a bike, learn how to weld, and have a general good time
